ShmooCon Commencement
That's a wrap. The last ShmooCon is over. ShmooCon is done, and that chapter of the story is complete.
Well, except for the post-production parts, but those are handled quietly in the background with only the final product typically seeing the light of day.
Being staff at ShmooCon has offered me a wide variety of experiences that I don't think I would have gotten elsewhere. The last 5 years have been learning to do live production video streaming, and digging up the memories of how I did this back in high school, half a lifetime ago. The part that I think is most amusing to me, is that while the entire technological stack, including equipments and formats have changed, the nouns and verbs of video handling, have not changed, and thus, my way of thinking about live video largely didn't have to change.
ShmooCon has been one of the two consistent beats in my life, along with DEF CON for the past decade. Every meeting with friends has been a variation on "With no ShmooCon, what are we going to rely on to get you out here?" I have to admit, I haven't figured out what that is yet.
ShmooCon's Commencement, while marking the end of ShmooCon, is the opportunity to make space for other things. And that's a good thing.
